City of Tampere and CGI join forces to create a smarter city

CGI and The City of Tampere have agreed to deepen their cooperation in the development of the digital services of Tampere. The new agreement will expand their cooperation to include the Smart Tampere programme, which aims at boosting economic growth and services in the Tampere region.

Smart Tampere aims at building Tampere into an internationally well-known smart city where businesses and residents are involved in the development of digital services and solutions. The programme strives to improve the citizens’ quality of life through accelerated economic growth and service development.

“CGI has provided the city of Tampere with a variety of digital services for a long time, including solutions for enhancing public transport and for the social and healthcare sector. CGI is well-known around the world for its innovative and practical solutions, and we are now looking into how these solutions could further benefit Tampere,” says Tero Blomqvist from the City of Tampere, who is Director of Smart Tampere programme.

CGI has developed solutions for public service provision, including solutions for healthcare and social services, education and culture, and public infrastructure, including energy and water services. In Finland, well-known CGI-produced Future Cities services include Journey Planner, the Omni360 patient information system and municipal e-services.

“We share a strong history with the people of Tampere. We employ more than 300 experts in Tampere, so we are not only building services but also using them on a daily basis. Under the Smart Tampere programme, we have the opportunity to identify new benefits of digitalisation, for example mobile technology, in the development of Tampere,” says Tapio Volanen, Managing Director of CGI Finland.
