Connectivity
High-quality, state-of-the-art wireless and wired connections are essential prerequisites for new digital solutions and smart city applications. Various connectivity solutions, such as 5G and LoRa, serve as a key enabling infrastructure for digitalization and IoT. Connecting the information to services that utilize it must be done safely, reliably and cost-effectively.
The aim of the theme is to accelerate the development of new connectivity solutions, thus enabling companies to develop new, globally scalable, pioneering products and services. New services and experiments contribute to the City’s own digitalization and carbon neutrality goals, and provide knowledge and practical experience.
Who can participate?
The activities around this theme are aimed at small and large enterprises or research institutions that develop different connectivity technologies or products using them.

Known for excellence in wireless technology
Tampere was one of the first in the world to define and develop mobile data communication capabilities (GSM data, GPRS, 3G) and WiFi in the 1990s. Integration of WiFi into a mobile phone (Nokia Communicator 9500) was the first in Tampere.
Traditionally, the strength of Tampere Region has also been the development of applications using wireless technologies. The upcoming 5G network will allow the development of autonomous machines, various artificial intelligence applications and automated traffic, for example.
