Tampere´s IoT platform will be supplied by Wapice Oy

The City of Tampere launched the procurement of the IoT (Internet of Things) platform, the outdoor lighting control system and the urban environment sensing in autumn 2019. In December 2020, Wapice Oy was selected as the service provider. The procurement decision is now final. Next, an agreement is signed and the implementation is started.

There will be several other use cases for the IoT platform in the future. The platform will collect data from different sources and allow open data sharing.

Companies as well as educational and research institutions can also utilize the data collected by the platform through interfaces, for example in their research and development work, says System Manager Mika Heikkilä.

The procurement aroused interest. In the spring of 2019, six companies were selected out of 12 applications for the competitive dialogue procedure. The companies selected were Caverion Suomi Oy, Gofore Oyj, ISS Palvelut Oy, Tampereen Sähkölaitos Oy, Tampereen Vera Oy and Wapice Oy.

At the end of the negotiations, five companies submitted a bid. Final bids were evaluated for quality and price. Based on the comparison, Wapice Oy made the most economically advantageous offer. The procurement agreement will be concluded with Wapice Oy for the next ten years.

Wapice has a long and diverse experience in delivering IoT and technology solutions. It is great to be involved in the development of a higher quality and more digitalized urban environment, which will also improve the quality of services received by citizens, says CEO Pasi Tuominen.

Wapice Oy is a Finnish software company specializing in industrial IoT and digitalization solutions. It employs more than 330 software and electronics experts in Finland.
