THE CITY DEVELOPS

City premises to 24/7 use

The City of Tampere owns many spaces that can be rented for recreation, events and working at low cost. There is great variation in how the reservations are made, however. The ‘City premises to 24/7 use’ project aims to make it easier for potential users to find a suitable space and make reservations. The aim is to open up these public spaces and make them more easily available to citizens, businesses and associations.

PRACTICAL IMPLEMENTATIONS

Varaamo reservation system

We are piloting a service called Varaamo, which enables the easy browsing and reservation of spaces in the municipalities of the Tampere City Region. The service is still in its piloting phase, and going forward, more available spaces will be included. The municipalities of the Tampere City Region are developing Varaamo jointly with the cities of Helsinki and Lappeenranta.

Digital keys

We are testing digital keys that work with smartphone BT/NFC identifiers. Our future aim is to enable Varaamo users to have easy access to reserved spaces using their smartphones or by entering a PIN code to a door access control reader.

Online payments

At present, the reservation and payment processes for the different public spaces vary. The project is looking to establish a consistent online payment system in Varaamo so that the reservation can be paid easily at the same time.
